(Age 95)
Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed into heaven on August 31st, at Colonial Court in the Spokane Valley. She was born on January 28, 1915. Ethelyn was preceded in death by her husband Roy. Ethelyn is survived by her two children: Connie and her husband Gary Burchill of the Spokane Valley, Dennis and his wife Sharon of the Spokane Valley, 4 grand children and 5 great grandchildren.
Her first 11 years were spent living on a farm in Iowa. At age 11 the family moved to Wimbledon, North Dakota. She graduated from Wimbledon High in 1932 with honors in her basketball skills. She continued her education in beauty school in Fargo, North Dakota. Ethelyn was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. After her retirement from Sears she became active in the “Lutheran Ladies” and volunteered as the music leader at the Good Samaritan for twenty years. She loved Bloomsday, running the race for 15 years and for volunteering for 12 years. Ethelyn enjoyed spending time with her family, writing poetry, canning, watching fireworks, always sending cards of encouragement, watching the “Zags” basketball games, and singing in the church choir. She was a great, daily example of a wonderful Christian woman. She was always counting her blessings even when not feeling well. Her family would like to thank Colonial Court for their love and exceptional care in Ethelyn’s final days as well as Dr. Peter Rinaldi. We are going to miss her, but we know she is enjoying her new home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 11, 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran in Spokane.
Memorial gifts should be made to the Ethelyn Olson memorial fund at Zion Lutheran Church.
