Frances Marie Pfeif was born in Odessa, WA on June 10, 1921, followed by Howard and Alice, to complete Henry and Hedwig’s family. She graduated from Yakima Senior High in 1939, and married Bill Sampson in 1940. Janice and Joanne were born in Tacoma, where Bill worked in the shipyards for the Army Corp of Engineers. In 1942 Bill was drafted into the Army. After his Army tour Bill started to work for Nalley’s Fine Foods. Frances was a stay at home mom and during Bill’s career they were transferred to Billings MT, Albuquerque NM, back to Tacoma and finally settled in Spokane in 1966. They spent many happy vacations with new friends and family. They became active in the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene. One of her friends taught her how to knit and crochet, forming a lasting friendship with June Weisen. She enjoyed taking class attendance for her Sunday School and reading the lesson scripture with the class led by John Good. She volunteered for many years at Valley General Hospital on Tuesdays, where Bill, when he completed his weekly Kiwanis meeting would join her for breakfast. She eventually had over 5,000 hours of volunteer work at the hospital. She retired from the hospital shortly after her husband’s death in 2011. She is survived by her daughters Janice (Joel) Magnuson and Joanne (Ron) Turner, two grandchildren, Sara (Mike) Kruger and Brian Magnuson, and two great grandchildren, Teddy and Lydia Kruger, who knew her as “GG.” A service to celebrate the life and faith of Frances, will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm, at Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th Ave Spokane Valley, WA 99037. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Nazarene Missions International c/o Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene.
