December 15, 1929 – December 26, 2016
Louise (Nelson) Fox was born in Great Falls, Montana on December 15, 1929. Her family lived in Hartline, Washington, where she grew up on a wheat farm. In 1943, during her freshman year of high school, she moved to Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. She met and fell in love with Elmer Fox, and they were married in 1948. She began her working career as a Practical Nurse and then moved to the Telephone Company, initially as a Long Distance Operator, and then as a Customer Service Representative. She returned to college and earned her degree from Eastern Washington University in December 1961. She began teaching in the Central Valley School District in the fall of 1962. She earned her Master’s degree in 1967, and became a reading specialist; helping thousands of children improve their reading. Even after her retirement in 1988, she continued helping students with their reading by volunteering in the Newport School District.
Louise’s faith in Jesus Christ was very important to her. She and Elmer devoted untold hours to their church, Spokane Valley United Methodist, where they were members for over 50 years. She was an amazing hostess, avid reader, gifted teacher, and excellent cook. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandma, and friend to many. She spent her life serving others and positively influenced thousands of people. She always had a welcoming spirit and smile for all those she encountered.
Louise is preceded in death by her husband Elmer. She is survived by two sons Thomas (Marybeth) and Larry (Cathy); grandson Kyle (Jenna); granddaughters Sarah (Crescencio), and Lisa (John); three great-grandchildren, Brewer, Greyson, and Lily; and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
The service celebrating her life will be Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2 pm at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in Louise’s name to Spokane Valley United Method Church.
