Friends and family will remember Hedy for her laugh, sense of humor, potato salad, homegrown cherry tomatoes, and her love for owls. Hedy remained active into her sunset years. She did Bloomsday training with her walking group and proudly mowed her own lawn until she was 80. She never missed an episode of The Young and the Restless and had the best kept shag carpet on the block.
Hedy spent her early years in Southern California, where she was raised on a dairy farm. She moved to Airway Heights, Washington in her teens, attending Lewis and Clark High School where she graduated in 1948. While attending Lewis and Clark, Hedy was the freshman class treasurer and active in the economics club.
Hedy married Mike McMurtery and raised three children in Spokane. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Michael McMurtery (Dorothy), Gary McMurtery (Deborah), and Brenda Nord (Larry). She was proud of her grandchildren: John McMurtery (Mary), Darcy Brixey, Jeffrey McMurtery (Monica), Gayle McMurtery (Chad Schaefer), Lisa Jackson (Timothy), and Karisa Peifer (Benjamin) as well as her great-grandchildren: Iain and Helen Brixey, Jamie McMurtery, Caden, Sawyer, and Kinsley Jackson, and George Peifer. She is also survived by her sister, Elinor Van Haren and multiple nieces and nephews.
Hedy is preceded in death by her mother, Hedwig Geiger Cadruvi, her father, Martin Cadruvi, and her siblings: Oscar Cadruvi, Paul Cadruvi, and Louise Nightser and two stepmothers, Katherine Cadruvi and Margaret Senge Cadruvi.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Margaret’s Shelter (101 E Hartson Ave, Spokane, WA 99202) or purchase a pack of stickers and decorate a card for a friend. Anyone who ever received a card from Hedy will recognize this as her signature.
