
I. Frances (White) Higgs passed from this earthly existence on December 9, 2016. Frances was born in Sebeka, MN to Isabelle Regina (Droessler) and Lendon Meldon White on September 29, 1927. She graduated from Sebeka High School in 1945 and received a Registered Nursing Degree from the College of St Scholastica, Duluth, MN in 1949. After working at Yakima Memorial Hospital in Yakima, WA in 1950/51 Frances returned home to marry her sweetheart, A. Jay Higgs in November 1951. Frances and Jay headed west to Portland, OR but decided to settle in Spokane, WA where she worked from 1952-1990 at Sacred Heart Hospital in the nursery, surgery, as 7th floor night shift head nurse and in IV Therapy. In her late 40's Frances learned to ski and enjoyed downhill skiing with her nieces, nephews, children and grandsons for many years. After retiring Frances and Jay sold their Spokane Valley home and traveled the United States in their 5th wheel until 2002. Frances loved knitting, gardening, canning and especially traveling and anything to do with huckleberries. For nearly 50 years she spent a portion of every summer picking huckleberries with family and friends. After Jay passed in 2003 she continued working on her bucket list. She traveled to the Mayan Ruins in Mexico, Norway, Costa Rica and Hawaii. Starting at the age of 70 Frances became our daredevil extraordinaire. She went snorkeling in Hawaii, rode on a motorcycle, did a tandem sky jump, went white water rafting with class 4 rapids in Hells Canyon, drove a racecar 136 mph at Lowes racetrack in Charlotte, NC and went ziplining in Costa Rica.
Frances is survived by her son Dale Higgs of Covington, WA and daughter Kathleen (Bruce) Au, grandsons Greg (Brandy) Au, Eric (Destiny) Au, and Bryon Au, great-grandchildren Cleome, Declan, Spencer, Cydney and Wren all of Spokane, WA and numerous neices and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by husband A. Jay Higgs, son David Higgs and all 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
