Larry was born February 24, 1936 to Hans and Sadie (Yocom) Madsen at the family farm east of Fairfield WA. Because of snowy conditions, the doctor was brought in by horses. Larry was the third child born to Hans and Sadie, having two older sisters. While growing up, he helped his Dad on the farm. Larry graduated from Fairfield High School in 1954. Before graduating, he enlisted with the U.S. Naval Reserve for an 8-year enlistment. Larry was employed at Appleway Motors in the Service Department before entering his career with National Cash Register Company (NCR), where he retired after 30 some years in Service Repair.
In 1957 he and his childhood sweetheart, Beverly Nelson, married and moved to the Spokane Valley. People would ask “how long have you known each other?” and the couple would reply “since we were 2 and 4 years old.” Both being of Danish descent, there were get-togethers where families would gather to socialize; the adults visited and the children played. They were so blessed to be a part of that culture. Larry and Bev were fortunate to make two trips to Denmark to visit relatives. Larry and Bev have three wonderful children. Because of their support during Larry’s illness, he was able to pass at the family farm where he and Bev lived since retirement; this was his wish. Larry was active in the communities of Fairfield and Rockford serving on the boards for the care centers and Rockford Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 68 years Beverly Madsen; children Tim Madsen (Shannon), Tamera Madsen, Melissa Madsen (Lawton Fox); sister Helen Grewe (Arthur); Grandchildren Kyle Madsen, Taylor Jackson (Matt), Larson Stoll, Hannah Madsen; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Mildred Clausen (Wayne).
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 5 at 11am at Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N Pines Road, Spokane Valley, WA 99206. Lunch will immediately follow the service. Family burial will occur at a later time.
