Marilyn Ardis Greer May 13, 1930 – September 23, 2021
Marilyn beloved mother has passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at the age of 91. Marilyn was born in Westhope, North Dakota to Sverre and Agnes Scheflo. The oldest of four children Alex, Jevein, and Monroe. She spent her childhood in North Dakota until she attended college in St. Paul Minnesota.
For a time, Marilyn taught grades 1-8 in a one room schoolhouse. She met Arthur Greer in Great Falls Montana while he was a featured skater in the Ice Follies. Arthur and Marilyn were married July 17, 1954. After several year in Glasgow Montana, Arthur and Marilyn and their four children moved to Spokane Washington in 1961. Arthur worked as a mechanic and then a truck driver. After another move from the city to the Valley, three more children were born.
Marilyn was involved with the PTA where she was a board member and always volunteering to chair committees. She supported the scouting program, where she was a scout leader for both boys and girls. She followed a friend to the Red Cross and decided she wanted to start helping in a small way. Over the years she started traveling to disaster zones like Florida, Louisiana and California, where she was happy to contribute in any way she could. More recently Marilyn’s passion was about the S.C.O.P.E program. This included finger printing children for identification and safety in the neighborhoods. She received numerus awards for her contributions to the community.
The social aspect of being in a group assisting in overcoming programs was where Marilyn always shined. This insight for solving problems was welcomed by many, including family.
Marilyn is survived by her seven children; Jay (Sharon) Greer, Jolene Gray, Jerry Greer, June Chandler, Jim (Stacy) Greer, Jason Greer, Justin Greer and thirty-two grand and great grandchildren. Memorial service for Marilyn will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, location at 1306 N. Pines Road, Spokane Valley, Washington on October 16, 2021, at 3pm.
Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Spokane Hospice for their care of our loving Mother. If you like to send in a donation, the family request you donate to the S.C.O.P.E program. Flowers are also welcomed, they came be sent to Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home for the service.

There are too many memories to list, but what I will always remember, are summers in Spokane. Swimming in the river, picking cherries, and raspberries with grandma. I'm so grateful to be part of this wonderful family. It's never good bye, it's see you soon.

I will always remember Marilyn waving to me on my way to or from work in our neighborhood with a huge smile on her face! She seemed forever happy & I always remember her laughing. She helped so many children throughout the years that she was involved in PTSA & taught me so much with fundraising ideas, volunteer ideas, & what extra programs we could bring into the school for the kids that I passed on to the people who took my place. We’ve lived in our home down the road from Marilyn & her family for over 45 years & although she will be missed, her giving spirit & kindness will remain a part of our loop in Greenacres. Rest In Peace Marilyn, knowing you always did your best not only for your kids & grandkids but for all of us.

Being active since 1998 in SCOPE as a photographer, I would frequently see Marilyn at various activities and at the Sheriff Appreciation Banquet. Good times! I am happy to see she lived to be 91 years! A good hearted Community Caring person she was!
