Marilyn Pontius was born on March 10, 1932, in Spokane, Washington, at Deaconess Hospital. She was married to George Pontius. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband George, her son Steve Pontius, and her sister Joan Ryker. She passed away on January 23, 2026, at the age of 93.
Marilyn was a schoolteacher in the Mead School District, working with grade school children with learning disabilities. She also served as a Christian missionary in Japan for 12 years with her husband George and family.
She is survived by her sons Timothy Pontius (Denise), Jeremy Pontius (Yukiko), and John Pontius (Marsha), along with 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on February 27, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, located at 5100 West Wellesley Avenue, Spokane, Washington, 99205. The funeral service is scheduled for the same day from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the same venue. Immediately following the funeral service, there will be a reception at the same location.
