

Matthew Ryan Mendez passed away in Seattle, Washington July 2, 2024. Matthew is preceded in death by his dad, Steve Apodaca, his pops Michael Matthew DeShaw, and his brother Alex Apodaca. He is survived by his mother Idalia Shuman, two sisters, Vanessa Apodaca-Hampar of Los Angeles, Amanda Loomis of Spokane Valley, beloved nephews, niece, aunts, uncles, and cousins from New York, Los Angelas, Yakima Valley, Moses Lake, Seattle and his Portland Friend Community.
Matthew was born in Spokane, Washington, on September 14, 1974, but lived most of his life in Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, since graduating from high school in 1992. Matthew worked in the restaurant industry since he was in high school. Most recently, he had begun working in hospitality.
Matt was a well-known staple of the local music scenes in Seattle and Portland, attending numerous shows and hosting special events and fundraisers. His love of music was matched by only his generosity and “DIY” (do it yourself) attitude!
Matthew will always be remembered for his passion for music and sports, which began at an early age. He shared his love for music with everyone as a DJ through his extensive album collection. Many of his longtime friends will remember how well he made a mixtape or CD with personalized playlists.
Matt’s passion for football shone through his loyalty to the Raiders. It’s been said that Matt “Bled Silver and Black” as a proud member of Raider Nation.
Matt loved spending his free time traveling to football games, music cruises and concerts with family and friends. He also enjoyed sharing stories, a homemade meal and creating new memories with his beloved family.
Memorial services will be held September 14, 2024, 11:00 a.m, at Pines Cemetery 1402 S. Pines Rd. Spokane Valley, Washington. The family invites you to join them for a celebration of life lunch following graveside services, at St. John Vianney Church Catholic Church 503 N. Walnut Rd, Spokane Valley, Washington.
