Merry was born December 24, 1960 in Spokane to Vernon Landkammer of Pomeroy, Washington and Norma Heller of Pilger, Nebraska. Both parents were from farming communities, raising wheat and corn, so it wasn't unexpected that she would walk in their footsteps. So, after graduation from Mead High School, Merry became a Green Bluff farmer, raising cabbage and other nutritious vegetables with her new family, the Walkers. She and Wayne Walker had three children: Katy Kenney in Spokane; Willy Walker in Massachusetts; and Jenifer who did not survive childhood. Merry had a vast number of Green Bluff stories that would keep you entertained for hours including the time that armed robbers tried to rob her of the proceeds from her produce stand and beat her over the head with a pistol. She wouldn't disclose where she hid the hard earned days receipts. The robbers left with nothing and Merry was left with a sore head and a great story to tell.
Merry finally decided that the back breaking work of farming was not what she needed long-term, so she began the difficult and challenging course of study to become a nurse. Her studies paid dividends when she applied for and was accepted at a position as a phlebotomist for Blood Systems in Spokane (now Vitalant). She has been a dedicated and highly regarded employee for more than twenty years, participating in blood drives within a 200 mile radius of Spokane. Here, also, she could keep you well entertained with stories about unruly donors. She excelled in her work because she brought the same level of energy and dedication that she had growing cabbages in Green Bluff. She loved her job and the donors and coworkers loved her back.
Merry and her second husband, Mark Myers, from Puyallup, WA were married in July 2017 and spent their honeymoon in Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands. They settled into a house and 10 acres on the Peone Prairie. Merry always call it the little house on the prairie. They had many good times together and weathered the Covid Pandemic with Merry barely surviving and leaving her with some severe side effects that never quite left her, mostly an out-of-control heart rhythm. Merry and Mark were planning a trip to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee, his home state.
Mer=ry has five siblings, all living in the Spokane area: Check Landkammer; Bill Landkammer; John Landkammer; Julie Johnson; and Lorri Landkammer.
Merry has 4 grandchildren: Jennifer; Sam; Ryan Jr.; and Evan. A fifth grandson, as yet unnamed, is soon to be born to parents Willy and Stephanie Walker.
Merry was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Landkammer; her daughter Jennifer Walker; and her first husband, Wayne Walker. Her mother, Norma, is 92 and is living in Merry's Childhood home on Austin Road, north of Spokane.
A celebration of Merry's life and the good times is being arranged by the family for a get together at the family home where she grew up. We all wish that she could be there to enjoy the family being together. I believe she might have another story or two that would make us laugh.
