Patricia (Pat) was born in Kansas City, MO in 1925 and raised in Beloit, KS by her loving parents, Harley and Minola Vestal. Prior to her graduation from Beloit HS in 1942, she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Piper Jr. In the summer of '42, Bill enlisted in the Army Air Corps. For 2 years, she wrote to him until he returned from service. They were married in 1944 and lived a wonderful, loving life until his passing in 1996. For 24 years they belonged to the USAF family, living in many locations including Moses Lake - where they fell in love with Washington state. In 1969, after 3 years service in Tokyo, Bill retired from the AF and the family came to Spokane. Their home on the northwest side was surrounded by the very best of neighbors and friends. Pat was employed by the US Government for 21 years, retiring from civil service in 1985. After retiring, Bill took her kicking and screaming for golf lessons and she fell in love with the game at Sundance Golf Course. One year, she was President of the Sundance Women’s 9-Hole League. She golfed the rest of her life when possible, and at the age of 83 in a game with her son, grandson William and dear friend Emery, she beat them all on a "149 yd hole" with a par 3. But don't ask how the rest of that game went! She was a member of the Washington State Quilters, including a year as their historian, and had many well regarded friends there. Pat loved birds and angels, cats and dogs, and all children. Among her dear friends are Emery, Jo, Hilda, June, Norma, Carol and Kay. She endeared herself to anyone and everyone who ever met her. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Pat and Bill came from loving Christian homes and loved and served the Lord all of their lives. They were members of North Hill Christian church where their church family meant a lot to them. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Michael Paul and Molli; her grandchildren, Christopher married to Faith Marie, Patricia, and William; and great-grandchildren Madeline June and Naomi Elise. Also close to her heart were Peggy, Patrick and Shane. Services for Pat will be held at 10:00 A.M. on September 17, 2011 at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home.
