Dick was born in Spokane Washington, on February 5, 1925. He attended Lewis and Clark High School until he enlisted in the Air Force. Dick served our country in both World War II and The Korean War as a radio man and rear gunner on a bomber, The Judy Sue. He earned many honorary medals and was very dedicated to our country. While Dick was in the service, he met and married the love of his life, Myra. After he served his duty in the Air Force, Dick worked in the Heating, Venting and Air Conditioning industry. Dick and Myra had one daughter, moved to Alaska for a short time, and then called Spokane home for the rest of their lives. He liked watching football and CNN (while enjoying a drink and smoked oysters), working in his shop and yard, and most importantly, spending time with his family. Dick was a very witty and ornery man, even in his last days. He could make anyone laugh, those who knew him would agree.
Dick is survived by his daughter Susan (Tom) Berendes; his granddaughter Shelly Byers; and six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah, Jack, Ben, and Emma Byers and Caiden Berendes. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Todd Berendes; and wife of 66 years, Myra.
Arrangements under the direction of Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, Spokane, WA.
