December 22, 1955 – April 25, 2025
Sharon Lee Mellis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the Hospice House in Spokane after a courageous nearly three-year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Sharon was born in Bozeman, Montana, and grew up in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from Shadle Park High School and went on to earn her degree from Eastern Washington University. Sharon dedicated 25 years of her career as an accountant with Pawn 1 before retiring to spend cherished time with her family.
In her earlier years, Sharon contributed to the very first Bloomsday event, manually entering data for over 1,000 runners — a testament to her dedication and attention to detail. Sharon had a love for sewing, crafts, and gardening, but above all, she delighted in spoiling her grandchildren and earning her title as the devoted "treat dealer" for her beloved granddogs.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bob Mellis; her children, Michael Mellis and wife Erin of Sammamish, WA, Justin Mellis and Amanda Mellis of Spokane; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth (11), Connor (8), and Ryan (8). She also leaves behind her adored granddogs, Winnie, Ruby, and Clover; her siblings, Diana Justice (Terry) and Carol Boileau (Steve) of Spokane, and Michael Kratofil (Leanne) of Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Stella Kratofil, and her nephew, Christopher Justice.
A memorial service celebrating Sharon’s life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home, 5100 W Wellesley Ave, Spokane, WA 99205.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff at Hospice of Spokane for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane in Sharon’s memory. hospiceofspokane.org
