Spokane Valley, WA
Sadly for her family, after an extended illness, Thelma Macy Towey peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan 2nd. She was born in a house that stood near where the beautiful John A. Finch Arboretum is now, beside the creek. She always loved sharing that with others. Psalm 23 was read over her at her birth, and also read to her during her final days. She received her early education at Chester School in the Valley. One of her first jobs as a teenager was at Crystal Laundry on Crystal Island. Thelma loved Spokane and never strayed very far away during her lifetime, it was home to her. She had a pioneering spirit though, and endured through any hardships she faced with dignity. Among the many joys in her life were her 6 children whom she loved, along with all of her friends and family. Thelma loved western books and shows and singing lovely hymns such as ‘In the Sweet By and By’ and ‘I’ll fly away’. Her delightful yodeling and her sweet and gentle spirit will be sorely missed.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Pauline Clark (Cox) of Spokane, WA and her sister, Mildred Hill (Clark) of Spokane Valley, WA.
She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Clark of Colville, WA and his family; her children, Marvin Carter of Anchorage, AK; Chris Carter of Anchorage, AK; Teresa Towey of Puyallup, WA; Karen Davenport (Towey) of Spokane, WA; Sandra Ochoa (Towey) of San Juan Capistrano, CA; Debbie Furnish (Towey) of Woodinville, WA and all of their families.
Thelma was laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park, WA after a private family graveside service.
Her family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Deaconess Hospital/7th floor for taking such special care of her during her stay there, you all are exemplary servants to those in need, we thank you so much.
Psalm 23:6 (KJV) “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” Amen.
