

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Alton Childs and Alice Ruth Childs of Elberton, GA; his brother Larry Childs of Elberton, his son Terry Childs, and his Granddaughter Christy Hendricks of Fayetteville, N.C. He is survived by his wife Linda and his faithful dog Misty at the home, his sisters Faye Mills, Wenona Churney (Johnny), Elizabeth Jones (Ray) of Elberton, GA and Sandra Eckstein (Jon) of Krum, Texas and his brother Thomas Childs, Jr. (Sandy) of Morganton, NC, as well as his children Shirley McIntyre (Steve), William "Buddy" Childs, Jr (Pam) of Colbert, GA, Vicki Childs and Willie Childs of Fayetteville, NC and Penny Hyatt (Ronnie) of Fuquay Varina, NC. In addition he had 6 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was most proud of his service to his country in his 20 years in the U.S. Army. He served 2 tours in Vietnam as well as 1 tour in Korea. He was also a 15 year Civil Service Retiree. He received numerous medals for his service including the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal. He worked as a Food Service Supervisor, an Executive Chef, NCO Club Assistant and a Club Manager during his Service time.
A graveside service will be held Monday, September 30 at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.
