

Donald Raymond Koivisto was born on January 30, 1948, in Hibbing, MN to parents Raymond and Eleanor (Erickson) Koivisto. He and his family moved to Lake Nebagamon, WI as a child where he lived until he enlisted in the US Army in 1966, where he served 2 tours in Vietnam until his discharge in 1969 at which point he served with the National Guard for an additional 20 years. On April 26, 1969, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Abel in Milwaukee, WI. His work in various jobs took him to many areas of the Midwest, but for the past 12 years, he had been living in Metairie, Louisiana. Donald was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW, Loyal Order of the Moose, Jaycees in St. Francis, MN, and the Eagles.
Donald is survived by his wife JoAnn of Bloomer, WI, son Donald Jr. (Sarah) of North Branch, MN, daughters: Dawn Koivisto of Bloomer, WI, Jennifer Lendabarker of Iron River, WI, 6 grandchildren: Jack, Lexi, Abby, Morgan, Alex, Connor, 1 brother, 5 sisters, and many nephews and nieces.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother.
Funeral services for Donald Koivisto Sr., will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012, at noon at the Dahl Funeral Home with Arnold Hoecherl officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11- noon at the Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner
