Thomas Boyd Ammend

Thomas Boyd Ammend was born on September 14, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Archie and Mildred (Henault) Ammend. After school, Tom served in the US Marine Corps as a MP from 1947- 1949 and received a honorable discharge. On January 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Roberts in Minneapolis, MN. Upon graduating from the Minneapolis School of Business, Tom worked as a salesman of commercial windows and doors which later lead to the creation of his own company, "Ammend Glass, Inc." in St. Paul, MN. The couple lived and raised their four children in New Brighton, MN. After Tom's retirement, they moved to their home on Long Lake, near Stone Lake, WI. Tom and Marge moved to Spooner in 2005, a few years after Tom was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Tom enjoyed laughing with family and friends, and had a diverse range of hobbies including duck hunting, fishing, and boating. In later years, he especially enjoyed golf and bowling and he held a life-long love of music and dancing. He will be remembered as a very kind person, a genuine listener, and was a man of honor and integrity. He enjoyed people and people enjoyed him.

Tom is survived by his wife Marge of Spooner, WI; children: Steve (Cherie) Ammend of Webster, WI, Bill (Jayne) Ammend of Iron River, WI, Nancy (Kent) Krause of Webster, WI, Dave (Maria) Ammend of Frederic, WI; grandchildren: Christy Ammend, Stephanie (Cory) Swingen, Andrea (Eddie) Erkmanis, Brett Ammend, Joshua (Sabrina) Ammend, Andy (Krista) Everson, Leslie (Jimmy) Leaf, Maddie Ammend; great grandchildren: Oliver Swingen, Nora Swingen, Isaiah Ammend; and sister Barbara (Gerald) Johnson of St. Paul, MN.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.

A memorial service for Tom Ammend will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 11 am at the Spooner United Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, at the Church from 10- 11am. Interment will occur at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner with Military Honors accorded.
