Carolyn Ann Slone, 89 of Spring Hill, Florida and a native of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on December 5, 2025 at Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, Florida. Carolyn was born in Atlantic, Iowa on September 17, 1936. She graduated from Macksburg Community School in 1954 and began her career at Bankers Life as a Word Processing Specialist, where she worked until her retirement in 1998. She had an uncanny knack for proof-reading all kinds of pamphlets over the years and would often circle the errors and give them to someone at that particular business and let them know they may want to fix the errors. On October 28, 1956, she married the love of her life, Duane Slone and they celebrated 57 years together before Duane passed away in 2013.
Carolyn had many hobbies over the years – going all the way back to her high school days where in her sewing class she often would correct the teacher on techniques of sewing. She continued that love of sewing for many, many years. She loved to cook for her family and always made everything from scratch (her grandkids especially loved her Peanut Butter and sometimes with Jelly sandwiches, homemade pizza & ice cream, Bishops Chocolate Pie and Creamed Chicken with Biscuits). Throughout her life she also enjoyed cross-stitching, knitting and reading but most of all – spending time with her family. Whenever we asked what she wanted for Christmas – it was always “pictures of you and the kids”.
After her retirement, she and Duane moved to Parrish, Florida and enjoyed the warm weather and lack of snow!
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Pam Cannon of Spring Hill, Florida, grandsons Dean Slone of Spring Hill, Phillip (Melissa) Cannon of Wesley Chapel, Florida, granddaughter Emilie Cannon of San Antonio, Florida and great-grandchildren, Dallas, Dylan, Cadence & Louie of Spring Hill. Carolyn is also survived by her cousin Sandi Brehmer of Spring Hill, who was also her roommate for the last 4 years.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Duane, parents Julius & Clara Jacobs, son & daughter in-law Dennis & Claudia Slone, daughter Kim Slone, and son in-law Tom Cannon.
A graveside service will be held, at a later date, at Florida National Cemetery where Duane is buried.
