August 11, 1950 – August 29, 2025
Damian Duane Griffin, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and cornerstone of the Clark community, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on August 11, 1950, in Catskill, New York, Damian lived a life defined by service, creativity, and love. He was a loving son to his late parents, Sunny and Helen Griffin, whose guidance and warmth shaped the man he became. Their memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Damian is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Gayle Griffin; his sons Shaun and Jason Griffin; his daughter-in-law Dena Griffin; and his treasured grandchildren, Ella and Jacob. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Audrey Kelly and Donna Morriss, who shared in his life’s journey with deep affection and support.
He is also lovingly remembered by his many family members, including his nieces and nephews; cousins Teddy and his wife Marlene, and Diana and her husband Richard; and his many aunts and uncles. The lifelong bonds Damian shared with his family brought him immeasurable joy and strength.
Damian was also a true friend to so many, including John and Debbie Fox. His warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Damian worked for the Clark Board of Education for 32 years as a dedicated maintenance professional. His tireless work behind the scenes helped keep schools running smoothly, and his quiet reliability earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Outside of work, Damian was a passionate coach, mentor, and volunteer. He gave countless hours to Clark’s youth sports programs, serving as a Clark Little League coach and traveling team leader, Clark Soccer coach and equipment manager, and Clark Rec and traveling basketball coach. He also volunteered as a basketball coach at St. Anne's in Garwood, NJ. He was Director of Clark Rec Basketball, co-founder of the Clark traveling basketball team, and Umpire-in-Chief for Clark Little League. His leadership and love for the game helped shape the lives of generations of young athletes.
Damian was also an artist with a creative soul, a traveler who found peace in Upstate New York, and a man who enjoyed the simple pleasure of a good beer and great company.
A celebration of Damian’s life will be held in Florida at St. Anthony’s Church, followed by a gathering at Papa Joe’s Restaurant. Date and time to be announced.
