He was born in New York City, New York to Austrian immigrants, his father Anton Poelzl and his mother Christine Kleinhansl.
As a young man, Frederick enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking the Adirondak Mountains in upstate New York with his parents and siblings. Frederick was a true outdoorsman enjoying not only hiking the mountains, but also hunting, boating and camping with his family.
When World War II broke out, Frederick enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge from the Army, he attended and graduated from Diesel Engineering school…but.. being the rebel he was..decided not to work for someone else. He started his own business in NYC where he met his wife, Helen Sokolowski. The two married on a bright and sunny day in July 1946 when they began their life together. Fredrick shared his strength, his wisdom and his love with Helen for 75 years. They built a home full of love and joy where they raised their children, Helene, Lydia and Maria. Before it was in style, he taught his daughters the value of being strong in the face of adversity, and to be independent in thought despite what others may say. He taught his family that, “through God all things are possible”.
Frederick is pre-deceased by his wife, Helen and daughter Maria. He is survived by his daughters Helene and Lydia, grandsons Stephen and Christopher, grand-daughter Alicia, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
