Garland Sean Errington James (affectionately known as “Garry”) was born on January 2, 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica to Neville and Elone James. Garry immigrated to the United States in 1972 where he lived in Laurelton, New York in their first house. They later moved to Cambria Heights in Queens, New York.
Garry flourished into a charming young man growing up in Cambria Heights. He attended the prestigious United Nations International School in New York City and Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, Long Island, where he graduated from high school. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance at Baruch College and shortly thereafter, made his debut on Wall Street. Ascending through the finance and brokerage investments industry, he became a highly sought after resource to private investors and firms, and garnered an esteemed reputation as a charismatic leader with an ability to establish profitable global relationships.
Garry never met a person who was a stranger. Known for his magnetic personality, sarcastic wit and humor, warmth, generosity, kindness and huge heart, Garry was extremely gregarious and popular. With confidence and swagger that emulated his immaculate style and grace (an ode to his favorite rap artist, Notorious B.I.G.), he would turn on that stunning smile and beguile everyone in his presence. He had a way with children that endeared him to his nieces and nephews even as they grew to become young adults. The love he had for his friends was articulated not necessarily with words, but with everlasting support and good deeds. As for his family, there were no boundaries. If Garry had something and someone in the family desired one as well, it was theirs. When it came to his family, no expenses were spared.
Garry enjoyed get-togethers with good friends, his family, lively music, good laughs, and sports. He was an uncompromising New York sports fan -- specifically, the Giants, the Yankees and his favorite team, the NY Knicks. Garry also enjoyed a good meal, everything from a good home-cooked plate of curry goat and rice and peas prepared by his parents, to a fine ribeye at any one of New York City’s prime steakhouses.
In 2016, Garry relocated to Spring Hill, Florida to reside with his parents. This was a huge blessing, as he was able to support them in all the ways that a loving child supports their parents as they grow in years. For example, when his dad became visually impaired, Garry became his eyes and so much more, and would take walks with his dad for his daily exercise. Garry also made sure his mom took breaks in her typically busy day to pause and relish the beauty of her garden. During his time residing with his parents, Garry also began studying the Bible and building his relationship with Jesus Christ. It was a joy for his parents to see this unfold in Garry’s life.
Garry is survived by his parents, Neville and Elone James, older sister Beverly, younger brothers Evol and Fawzi, sisters-in-law Maureen and Celechia, nieces and nephews Kahron, Michelle, Kayla, Kristian, Fawzi Jr. and Madisyn, and a host of other family members. We mourn the larger than life human that Garry was but we are comforted in our knowledge that he is resting easy. He will be tremendously missed by the family, as well as a multitude of friends and loved ones, but never forgotten.
