

Helen Maks, age 91, died on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Helen was a longtime resident of Spring Hill, coming from Chicago, Ill. A home maker who loved to care for her husband, of 50 years. Helen was born in Khmelnefzkj, Ukraine, on August 5, 1924, to the late Stanley and Bronias (Kaletrwycz) Rozylo. Helen loved to draw birds, and then embroider, crotchet, and knit the artwork. Helen and her husband were founding members of the St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, in Brooksville, FL., and always helped in fund raising during the sales of Pierogis’, Bobka’s, and Kolacki Cookies. As a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Helen was Catholic by faith. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jerry Maks, on August 11, 2013. Helen was a wonderful, beloved woman with a fantastic sense of humor and beautiful mind. She was born in Russia in 1924, one of five children to a loving mother and father. Her life and legacy included the birth of her daughter, Jeanne, a move to the United States from Belgium, and marriage to her husband, Jerry, who Helen still held hands with until he passed. Helen traveled the world, she had a penchant for fashion and jewelry, and was a cherished daughter, confidant, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to friends and family who will deeply miss her. Helen’s crocheted gifts, fresh made pierogis, joyful smile and hearty laugh were a blessing to every one of us. She will be missed so much more than could ever be expressed, and we celebrate the life, love and the gift she is. Helen is lovingly survived by her daughter, Jeanne Blain and Husband Paul, of Sharon, WI. Grandson, Anthony Trajkovich (Jeanny Woelky) of Fontana, WI. Granddaughter, Lisa Trajkovich (Robin Pande), of Williamsbay, WI. Grandaughter, Marie Handschiegel, of Schaumburg, IL. granddaughter, Patricia Handschiegel, of Los Angeles, CA. step-granddaughter, Michelle Reins (Travis) of Lake Lillian, MN, step-grandson, Henry Blain (Jessica) of Huntsville, AL. and also by 5 great grandchildren. Helen’s family and friends will gather for a visitation on Friday, October 23, 2015, from 4-8 PM, at the Turner Funeral Homes, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL. A Panhkhda (Prayer Service) will be held at 6 PM Friday, at the funeral home. The Pokhoron (Funeral Service) will be held at the St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 8064 Weeping Willow Street, Brooksville, FL, 34613, on Saturday October 24, 2015 at 10 AM with Fr. Mikhail Kouts officiating. Committal Prayers and burial will follow at the Florida Hills Memorial Gardens, on Spring Hill Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered in Helens memory to the St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
