At the age of 16 years of age he moved to Holland, where he worked very hard at various jobs in order to build a new life. He met his wife, Truus maas and they were married in 1954. Throughout his life he was an inventor, innovator and an entrepreneur; working to improve our lifestyle and to create new business and trade. Herbert had many accomplishments throughout his life, in 1960 Herbert started selling the Borner Hobel Rot/Gelb in Holland. He was the first export customer of this product from this German Company, selling this slicer in Holland. He went on to invent/design the Vegetable holder for this slicer(cowboy top) for this company. He was the first one to import the lint brush (red Cloth) in Holland from Japan, and sold millions of pieces. Around 1970 he built and sold his own vacuum cleaner attachments, which are still being sold today. In fact most vacuum cleaners sold in Europe still come with 2 little red cloth strips, his attachment was universal. Herbert then went on to invent the stainless steel coffee filter, doing away with the need to use paper filters. This product sold millions of pieces in Europe and then in the USA where there was a model made for the Mr. Coffee machines. Later this filter was replaced with a nylon mesh and today this invention comes standard with many coffee machines. Herbert also invented the Man Made Shammy Mop, a product that is now sold worldwide. Millions of pieces are still sold every year. Later in life Herbert moved to America and joined his son in business here in the USA. He loved America so much that he became a Naturalized citizen in 2012. The decision was made to sell Teak furniture, to the United States market. Herbert became the company ambassador, he travelled to Indonesia to find a quality source of product and hence began Teak Tropical, he set up and oversaw operations in the Indonesian factory. Herbert truly was a craftsman, he could build anything from wood; tables, chairs, cabinets and he loved to tinker and make new designs. His line of top quality teak furniture was produced and sold worldwide. His hobbies included: hunting throughout Europe, fishing, traveling, hunting, wood working, and working the land clearing land/logging trees and planting. The last few years of his life he spent traveling and enjoying time in Thailand.
