John D. Stershic, age 91, of Spring Hill, FL passed away on February 6th, 2019. He was born on April 17th, 1927 in Freeland, Pennsylvania to the late John Stershic and Mary Ida Stershic. He attended and graduated from Dunellen High School in Dunellen, NJ. John honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II on a minesweeper vessel. After his discharge from the Navy he started his 37 year long career as a Carpenter with Union Carbide in Bound Brook, NJ. John was married to Helen Harlukowicz on March, 11th 1972. John retired to Spring Hill, FL in 1985. He worked for Turner Funeral Home in Spring Hill, FL as a Funeral Attendant and assisted many families of the community during their time of grief. For many years John was also the Head Usher for the 9 o’clock Mass at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking and making things for others and traveling around Florida. He was loving, outgoing and devout in his Catholic faith. He is predeceased by daughter, Rosemary Cox; sister, Alice Krieck and brother, Eugene Stershic. Survivors include his wife, Helen Stershic; daughters, Linda (Jonathan) Bubrow of Spring Hill, FL, Francine (Glenn) Milko of Waretown, NJ, and Kathryn Stershic of Alexandria, VA; son-in-law, Stephen Cox; grandchildren, Elizabeth Shaw, Jonathan Bubrow, Christine Cox (Ramiro), and Jamie Bisiar (Terry); three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 13th, from 6-8 pm at Turner Funeral Home in Spring Hill, FL. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 14th, at 11 am at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Spring Hill, FL. Interment at Florida National Cemetery will follow, date and time pending. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
