Born in Augusta, GA, she was the 4th of 5 children, to Elvin Lee and Leafie Touchton of Alma, GA. Lou Ella was named from her grandmother, the only maternal grandmother she knew.
She graduated from Tubman High School, which was a public all girls school (the boys attended a public military school, Richmond Academy) where she took college preparatory courses. However, when she graduated, World War II had bugun; so upon completing business courses, she went to work for the Federal Government at Camp Gordon in Augusta, GA.
It was there that she met and married Oscar Rayburn Wyatt, an Alabama native who grew up in Tampa. After the birth of her oldest child, Ray, she moved to Tampa. Deborah, Rick and Barbara were all born in Tampa. Lou Ella was a "stay-at-home" mom until her oldest children were in high school, when she returned to the workforce. She worked as a Secretary for the City of Tampa Parking Department and later at the Recreation Department. She retired from the City of Tampa after 22 years of service. After retiring, she joined the gym and enjoyed aerobic classes, was an avid walker and became "addicted" to genealogy and at her cousins encouragement, joined the DAR and UDC.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tampa, Tampa Chapter DAR, Tampa Chapter UDC, Daughters of 1812, Tampa Women's Club, Military Officers' Wives Club and was a prospective member of the Huguenot Society.
