Michelle Liza Howe, born November 29, 1949, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of independence, loyalty, and strength that will be deeply remembered by all who knew her.
Michelle graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University and began her professional journey as a teacher, instilling knowledge and inspiration in her students. She later transitioned to the optical industry, where she built a remarkable career spanning more than 40 years. Her dedication, expertise, and work ethic earned her the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Fiercely independent, Michelle lived life on her own terms. She was the kind of friend whose loyalty never wavered—if she liked you, she loved you without question. But if she didn’t, she made sure you knew it. This boldness was a part of her charm, and those who knew her best admired her honesty as much as her warmth.
Michelle’s legacy will be carried on in the lives of the friends and loved ones she touched with her generosity, humor, and fierce spirit.
Michelle was pre-deceased by her parents Harold and Marilyn Gershbein along with her husband Donald and her sister Ellen Rettenmaier. She is survived by Melissa Lyons Gracyalny (John) and their children Nicholas and Max; her brother-in-law Roy Rettenmaier (Ellen), their children Gail and Michael and many close cousins and friends.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
