Richard “Dick” Henry Turmel, was born to Margaret Griffin and Wilfred Turmel on January 18th, 1936, in Waterbury, CT. He was simply the best. He was and always will be immensely treasured.
Dick was raised by his Mother, in Waterbury, CT. with his twelve siblings.
Dick poured his heart and soul into his life, and all the people he surrounded himself with, absolutely admired him. There truly wasn’t anything that he couldn’t do, he was just that great. Dick touched everybody’s lives and made it a point to make all those he encountered feel so important and special. He showed up when it mattered, had your back, gave to those in need, and would defend and stand up for his loved ones should the need for it arise. He kept us safe.
During his youth he served with the United States Marines and after his Discharge, he married the love of his life Dorothy Patricia Cuddy.
He loved being outdoors and was an avid fisherman who sidelined his adventures with a rousing game of horseshoes. He had one other joy and that was racing, if there was a checkered flag involved, he was at his happiest. His son and daughter have many happy memories of events where one of them was the recipient of that checkered flag. At the end of every event and every day though, his family was his constant, his everything.
Dick is survived by his Son and his wife, Richard J. and Trudy Turmel, his Daughter and her husband, Michelle and Glenn LaPlante, his grandchildren and their spouses Danielle and CJ Malloy, Stephanie and Rich Hunstein, Brandon and Destiny LaPlante. “You never said I’m leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knew why. A million times we needed you, a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God took you home.” Author Unknown.
