Susan Kay Burkhart

Susan Kay Burkhart, 78, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021. She was born in Huntington, Indiana to Lowell and Velma Mae Buzzard. Her husband Captain Joseph J. Burkhart, proceeded her 26 years ago. She was of the Catholic faith and will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. She was a graduate from Indiana University with a degree in Art. After, being an art teacher she decided she wanted to chase her passion of becoming a hair dresser. Shen then, opened her own shop in Indiana, called The Cellar. When she moved to Florida in 1979, she became a loving and devoted housewife. Once Kirsten, her only child, was old enough, she wanted to go back to work. She was a manager at The Limited and The Gap. Her love for helping people, had her in this career for many years. After losing her husband, in 1995, she spent many years with her daughter’s family going to Nascar races. She was a true race fan, growing up attending many races in Indianapolis. On her 60th Birthday she went on a cruise with friends. She met a man from Madison, Wisconsin, Arthur Hill. She travelled to so many places with him in the RV across the United States, even got to attend Sturgis; riding a Harley with him. 14 years ago she developed Parkinson’s, and moved back to Tampa, where she resided with her daughter, so her family could provide any care she needed. She was able to take care of her grandchildren. She drove them anywhere they needed to go in her Mustang GT convertible, which she was very well known for. She was also known as the cool grandmother amongst all the kids. She attended every dance, cheer, and baseball event for her only two grandchildren until the end. Her grandkids considered her a second mother, she was always there to talk to them and help them though many life’s events.

She is survived by her loving daughter Kirsten Kay Lloyd and son-in-law Barry Lloyd; grandchildren Kayla J. and Baylor J. Lloyd, also her dog and best friend Bentley.
