

Wittie was born June 3, 1931, in New York City to Wittie E. McNeil Sr. and Mazie (Skeene) Mc Neil.
Wittie attended Junior High 40, Hareen High School in New York and Bethune Cookman College, Daytona, Fl.
with a Basketball Scholarship.
Wittie could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He was an avid basketball player and one of the players
at the Ruckus Tournament and one of the founders of the summer program on 155th street in New York City.
Wittie served in the United States Army as a Lance Corporal during the Korean War. Wittie was an
exceptional individual standing very tall in this diverse community.
Wittie worked for the NYC Department of Sanitation for 28 years beginning as a street sweeper pushing a broom
and progressed up to the Deputy Commissioner of NYC Sanitation. Wittie had been previously
involved in many parts of politics which allowed him to write a grant for NYC Model Cities program for
under privileged in self sufficiency. He was involved with the 100 Black Men Society. Wittie had been the
president of the Negro Benevolent Society of the Department of Sanitation of the city of New York. He
was instrumental in the construction of Brooksville Regional Hospital in Hernando County Florida. He
was seated on the Board of Trustees from 1994 to 2006 and served as Chairperson from 2003 to 2005.
Wittie was a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Prince Hall Masons in New York City. His other
interests included family, golf, fishing swimming, boating, riding his motorcycle listening and recording
Jazz and attending Jazz concerts.
Wittie leaves to mourn his physical loss, but to cherish his life his loving wife Lorraine R. McNeil.
His son Tracy McNeil and his wife Maria, Granddaughter Traycina L. McNeil, Great Granddaughter
Ca’elyn L. Edwards, Daughter Renee M. Lee and Lorese Garfield – Johnson, Grand Children Ishmael A. Morris,
Kahlif K. Morris, D’Wayne Walker and Tiffany Boyd, Great Grand Children Diamond Walker, Desiree
Walker, India Young, Lynia Morris, Demarius Walker and Skye Madison Morris. He was predeceased by
his parents Wittie E. Sr. and Mazie McNeil, his daughter Kim Allison McNeil and his brother Ronald E.
McNeil.
Friends and family may visit at the First United Methodist Church of Spring Hill on Thursday Sept. 4th
from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 PM. Interment at Florida National
Cemetery will be at a later date
