He was born on August 27, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY to Aaron and Ann Rosofsky. He had one beloved brother, Irwin Ross.
He went to Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, NY and graduated in 1952. He attended undergraduate college at New York University and graduated in 1956. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Lambda Sigma. He then attended New York University School of Medicine, graduating in 1960. He pursued an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, NY. While at NYU he met and married his best friend Roberta Shenkin, and they have lovingly been married for over 60 years.
Dr. Cyril Ross served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, stationed in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was recognized and presented with a medal by the Air Force for establishing the Department of Internal Medicine and Radiology at the newly developed hospital on the military base.
A longtime member of the Rockland community, Dr. Ross lived in Valley Cottage, NY for over 50 years. He practiced as an Internal Medicine Specialist and partner at Rubinstein, Ross & Kanter MD PC in Blauvelt, NY for over 40 years and later within Nyack Hospital. After he closed his practice, he joined the Rockland Pulmonary & Medical Associates with offices in West Nyack, NY.
He served on the Board of Directors and as President of Medical Staff for Nyack Hospital. Dr. Ross was always more concerned about others than himself. He would get up in the middle of the night to see patients in the Nyack Emergency Room and would make rounds at the living facilities and Dominican convent on weekends. He continued to make house calls for patients that could not come into the office for medical reasons, even when it was no longer customary to do so.
After he retired, he loved to garden on his deck, cooked from his heart, and traveled around the globe with his wife, family, and friends. He always chose to continue his education through reading piles and piles of books, attending community learning collaborative courses, and watching instructional videos.
Dr. Cyril Alan Ross is survived by his wife, Roberta Ross; his son and spouse, Lawrence and Bonnie Ross; his grandchildren, Kayleigh and Brendan Ross, Darienn Balin, Liam Powers, and close extended family and lifelong friends. He was always proud of the accomplishments of his son and grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 4 at the Reform Temple of Rockland, 330 N Highland Ave, Nyack, NY at 10:30 am.
Donations may be sent to the Reform Temple of Rockland at the above address.
