Joan, Mommy, Nanny and More Nanny was a woman who knew how to be a wife, a mom, a sister, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, an aunt and a friend. She loved her family deeply and took great joy in spending time with her daughters, their husbands, and all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the oldest of four siblings, Dorothy, Grace and Michael, who also meant the world to her. Joan looked forward to her regular lengthy conversations and visits with her brother, Michael, the most recent one being last week. She enjoyed a close relationship with her sister-in-law Ruth who thought “the world be a better place with more people like Joan”. Joan was a generous, kind soul who was thoughtful, caring and listened without judgement- well, most of the time! She spent time helping her community in many leadership roles. Joan was a NYS PTA lifetime member and past president of the Woman’s Club of Suffern, where she was the longest tenured member of at least 50 years. She was the founding member of a local Red Hats Society, as well as the Blue Chippers Stock Club. While her passing leaves her family and friends broken hearted, her love and her lessons will live on. Joan is survived by her daughters, Gayle Yodowitz (Bob) and Carol Kolomer (Greg), her grandchildren Crysten (Matt), Samantha (Mike) and Emily (Brandon), Morgan and Jackson, her great grandchildren Callie, Oakley, Nolan and Robbie, her brother Michael, sister-in-law Ruth (Bob) and many nieces and nephews. Joan’s beloved husband, Leonard, passed away in 2008.
