Joseph Neuwirth, of Suffern, NY passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026. Born on October 24, 1935 in Manhattan, NY he was a devoted husband to Marian H. Neuwirth (passed in 2020) and a loving father to Mark and Karen Neuwirth, Michael Neuwirth, and Debra and Steven Forman. Dad thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily, Alex, and Adam and was proud to watch them grow into adulthood. He embraced all of his family members with strong love and loyalty.
Dad was ahead of his time in his ability to apply many different skill sets across his working years. He graduated high school in California and joined the U.S. Army from 1955-1958. In his latter years in the service he became a Specialist 5 Technician, and an evidence photographer within this area. After leaving the service, he met his “love at first sight,” Marian Nestler at the New York City Public Library. Once married, dad had a number of occupations he enjoyed, starting as a NYC taxi-cab driver, a child and family photographer, a computer programmer and systems analyst, and in his retirement, a driving instructor. He had a strong work ethic, and shared valuable stories and life lessons from every experience in each occupation. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, and was a free-lance photographer throughout periods of his life. Most importantly, he valued the art of photography and the fun of making great art as it pleased his own eye. He also enjoyed traveling with family very much.
Dad left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him and listened to his wisdom filled stories. His love for all life experiences was something he shared with his children, leaving a mark on us that will never fade. We will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY 10977, on January 20, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Congregation Sons of Jacob Cemetery, 165 Westside Ave, Haverstraw, NY 10927, at 2:30 pm.
