

Joseph Schwartz of Tappan, New York passed away on December 3, 2014. He was 93. A graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Joe held bachelor's and master's degrees and completed doctoral studies in electrical engineering from City College of New York and Brooklyn Polytechnic University. A funny, kind man and mentor, Joe invented and holds a U.S. Patent for the fluid measuring system that NASA has used to detect pressure changes in a zero gravity environment. He also designed the hardware for the Dubner CBG, an Emmy-award winning graphic system that brought electronic graphics to television news and sports. In addition, Joe helped design the computer hardware for the original Ticketron system. An avid athlete, Joe was also a YMCA New York State four-wall handball master’s champion in the 1980s. He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Wilma Schwartz, and his daughter, June Schwartz (aka, Oots) of Manhattan, NY. His son, Steven Schwartz, predeceased him. He is also survived by a daughter from a previous marriage, Elaine Schwartz, as well as numerous engineering colleagues and mentees.
