

Murray Jacobs, 91, died on November 18, 2019 at Brightview Senior Living in Orangeburg, New York, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of Sara and Joseph Jacobs. He graduated from Samuel Gompers Industrial High School in 1946. Immediately after his graduation, when he turned 18, he enlisted in the Army to join his brothers and serve his country. Murray was a proud member of the 88th Infantry Division, the Fighting Blue Devils. In 1952 Murray joined his two brothers, Marty and Bernie, to become a New York City police officer. In 1954, Murray married Rhea Tobias, the love of his life. Murray retired from the NYPD as a Lieutenant in 1985, after serving many years in Greenwich Village (the 6th Precinct). Murray attended college later in life and graduated with honors from New York Institute of Technology. Murray also became a real estate agent. Murray was a wonderful storyteller, an avid joker and prankster, and enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, playing Casino, and painting. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Murray was devoted to Rhea, his wife of 65 years, his immediate and large extended family, and his friends.
Murray is survived by his beloved wife Rhea Jacobs (nee Tobias), son Charles (Elizabeth) Jacobs, son Andrew Jacobs, son-in-law David Fiderer, and grandchildren Hilary (Nicholas) Bolash, Bradley Jacobs, Jennie Jacobs, Dylan Jacobs, Carolina Jacobs, Haley Fiderer, and Jordan Fiderer, and many loving nieces and nephews. Murray was predeceased by his daughter, Laura Fiderer, and his siblings Adele Hantman, Martin Jacobs, Bernard Jacobs, Jerry Jacobs and parents Sara and Joseph Jacobs.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, New York 10977. Interment to follow at Cedar Park Cemetery at 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey. Memorial contributions in Murray’s memory may be made to the Orangetown Jewish Center or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
