Patricia Smith Lefkowitz

It is with profound sadness we mourn the passing of Patricia Smith Lefkowitz. Beloved mother of Andrew P. Lefkowitz (Gwen), sister of Barry D. Smith, grandmother of Alexandra F. Lefkowitz and Benjamin I. Lefkowitz. Beloved wife for 59 years of Louis H. Lefkowitz MD (deceased). Patty attended Skidmore College and graduated from New York University. She was a public school teacher in New York City in the 1960's. After teaching Patty became a full time mother and later dedicated her time and commitment to fundraising. She was the first woman to sit on the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.

She planned and Co-Chaired the first Spring Gala to benefit Good Samaritan Hospital in 1986 and continued to serve for 15 years. She was recognized with the Medal of Honor in 2015 for dedication to the hospital and community. Patty’s commitment to Good Sam goes back three generations. Her grandmother founded the first hospital auxiliary in 1920, and her mother and mother-in-law continued that work. Her father and father-in-law were both on the Medical & Dental Staff at Good Samaritan. Lou, Pat’s husband, joined the staff in 1971, and was instrumental in establishing the hospital’s birthing center. Patty and her family generously provided the OB/GYN Family Room in the Emergency Center. Memorial contributions can be made in Patricia's memory to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, Suffern, NY.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday April 17, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery, Brick Church Road & Route 306, New Hempstead, NY 10977.
