

Seymour Small, 95 years young, passed away on June 24th, 2012. Seymour was born on March 9th, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the youngest of nine children and the son of Rachel and Israel Smolowitz. He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Florence Small. Seymour was a loving and devoted husband. Seymour and Florence legally changed their last name from Smolowitz to Small in 1946. He is survived by his two dedicated children, their spouses and four grandchildren. He was the father of Bonny and Stephen Weiss of Pomona, New York and of Barry and Mindy Small of Oceanside, New York. He was the proud grandfather of Meg, Lara, Lesley, her fiancé Mark, and Bradley. Seymour and Florence were life-long friends to Lillian and Bernie Frankel. During Seymour’s lifetime he was a resident of Brooklyn, the Bronx, and later both Pomona, New York and Coconut Creek, Florida. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Pacific as member of the US Navy. He went on to work as a milkman and then later a furniture salesman until his retirement at age 62. After retiring, he lived his life with his wife Florence as a ‘snow bird.’ During their time in New York, Seymour spent over 20 summers at Camp Ramaquois, where he was lovingly known by all as Grandpa Seymour. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 26th at 11 am, at Hellman Memorial Chapel, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, N.Y. 10977 Shiva will be observed Tuesday and Wednesday at the Small residence in Oceanside, Long Island and Thursday, Friday until 4 pm, Saturday after 6 pm, and Sunday at the Weiss residence in Pomona, New York.
