Michael Colvin, 71, passed on May 26, 2026, surrounded by his immediate family. He was born April 8, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio, and was raised with the love of his parents, Chester and Patsy (nee:Lyons) Colvin.
Michael graduated from Springboro High School in 1973, where he played football as an offensive and defensive lineman, as well as participated in track and field. He was selected for the All League football team. Having grown up in the country with his siblings, he enjoyed having animals, especially horses. He loved his horses so much that occasionally he invited his pony over for sandwiches and to watch Mr. Ed on TV. He was a Boy Scout and traveled to Philmont Ranch—an early sign of the steady work ethic and determination that would mark his life. He also taught himself the drums and played in the school band, joking around with family and friends. Michael continued his love of football at Winona State University in Minnesota, and later graduated from Miami University with an Associates in Industrial Psychology.
A proud tradesman, Michael was a journeyman in the United Association Union. He approached his work with diligence and reliability.
In 1976, Michael married Kathy Wilhoit. Together they welcomed three children, of whom he was deeply proud. With encouragement and support, he saw his son, Colonel Nathan Colvin, attend and graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point —an accomplishment that reflected not only Nathan’s dedication, but also Michael’s belief in the people he loved.
Michael found satisfaction in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed landscaping, and in his younger years he loved being outdoors—fishing, swimming, lifting weights, hiking, and biking. In his latter years, he frequently spent time in Florida with his parents. He also enjoyed reading history, especially military history, and he valued the lessons of perseverance and service found in those pages. He enjoyed spending time with his family at his parent's homestead. He was a lifelong Bengals fan, which showed his dedication to lost causes.
Michael is survived by his son, Nathan Colvin (Ekaterina) of Louisville, Kentucky; his daughters, Brittany Campbell of Lebanon, Ohio, and Courtney Colvin of Waynesville, Ohio; and his former wife, Kathy Colvin of Waynesville, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ronald, Lillyanna, Gavin, Theodore, Cooper, Samuel, and step-granddaughter Victoria; and by his siblings, Gregory Colvin (Jan), Mark Colvin (Bev), Timothy Colvin (Vanessa), Donna Adams, and Jeffrey Colvin (April). He is also survived by numerous extended family.
