

Al Walker, Jr., 77, of Springfield, passed away at 8:46 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at his residence. Al was born on June 28, 1941 in Springfield, the son of Albert, Sr. and Catherine Eileen Mayer. He married Carolyn Yoggerst in Springfield. Al served his country in the United States Army. He was a Union Painter for 40 years. Al enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, gigging frogs in his younger years, and mowing the yard. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Walker. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Yoggerst of Springfield; one son, Brian (wife, Kelly) Walker of Springfield; two step-children, Mark (wife, Sadie) Yoggerst of Springfield and Lynn (husband, Steve) Sypniewski of Howell, MI; two grandchildren, Hannah and Jake Walker of Springfield; and many step-grandchildren; those closest to him include Chelsea, Casey, Meaghan and John; many step-great-grandchildren; those closest to him include Skye, Gracie, Piper, Scarlett and soon to be born, Layla Catherine; aunt, JoAnn Canham of Springfield; sister in law, Judy Walker of Arkansas; and several cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Graveside Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Deacon Dominic Palazzolo officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
