

Albert S. Baka, 89, of Springfield, died at 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, August 07, 2008 at St. John's Hospice. Albert was born February 9, 1919 in Johnstown, PA, the son of Andrew and Mary Mason Baka. He married Anna T. Sefick on September 16, 1943 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Springfield. She preceded him in death on September 24, 2003. Albert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was employed at CIPS (Ameren) for four years as a lineman and was then self-employed for four years before going to work as an electronics technician at Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville; he retired after eighteen years of service. Albert was a member of the K of C and the VFW. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Baka; five brothers, John, Tony, William, Emil and Joseph Baka; and one sister, Mary Masum. He is survived by three sons, Dennis Baka of Madison, WI, Robert Baka of Petersburg and William (wife, Diane) Baka of Jonesboro, AR; three daughters, Rochelle (husband, Clifford) Roberts of Medford, WI, Jennifer Michlli of Tampa, FL and Mary Brinkley of Springfield; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1720 S. Grand Ave. East, Springfield with Rev. Christopher A. House, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the United States Department of Defense will provide military honors.
