

Alex Lucore, 13, of Springfield died at 9:14 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2008 at St. John's Hospital. Alex was born November 15, 1994 in Springfield, the son of Dr. Charles and Paula Sorensen Lucore. Alex was an honor student at Franklin Middle School and earned the honor of Student of the Month in November 2007. He won gold and silver medals in the Special Olympics 50-yard dash and softball throwing events and was also an accomplished skier. Alex loved attending the United Cerebral Palsy camp each summer and swam each Saturday at the YMCA with the Lincoln Land Down Syndrome Group. He was an avid fan of Broadway shows and loved to sing Disney and Andrew Lloyd Weber tunes. He loved family parties, Barney and his vacations in Montauk, New York. Alex was a member of the Church of the Little Flower. He was preceded in death by his grandfather: Dr. Frank "Boppy" Sorensen and his great-aunt and great-uncle: Mimi and James Casertano. Alex was loved and will be dearly missed by his parents; his twin sister: Jordan; his brother: Christopher; his grandparents Vera "Nonny" Sorensen of Rockville Centre, NY and Eleanor and Charles Lucore of Cheshire, CT; and numerous other friends and family members. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield to celebrate and honor Alex's life. The gathering will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Drive, Springfield, IL with Msgr. John R. Ossola celebrant. Inurnment will be held immediately after the funeral mass at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
