

He was born in Decatur, IL, Dec. 9, 1927 the son of Daniel and Carrie (Stubbs) Pryor. He married Bernice Robertson in 1950 and she preceded him in death in 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marian Ann Pope.
Allen honorably served his country in the United States Army and earned the American Theater Ribbon and the W.W. II Victory Medal. He graduated from Milliken University in Decatur, IL.
A chemist by profession, Allen retired in 1989 from the Illinois Department of Transportation where he served as the Chief of Hazardous Materials.
He also was the owner/operator of Print Gallery, which was well known for the collection and sale of famous African-American Artist work. He traveled all over the country representing this business. He was elected and served in various capacities, including president of the Springfield Recreation Commission for over 10 years. In his past time, he enjoyed music and especially Jazz. He collected many albums over the years.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children; Leslye (husband Calvin) Mitchell-Yancey of St. Louis, MO, Brian Pryor Sr.(Jackie) and Bruce Pryor (Cassandra) both of Springfield, and Cydney Hughes (Dennis Sr.) of Denver, CO., his grandchildren; Angel Pryor, Frank Mitchell, Melody Pryor, Tiffany Pryor-Wallace, Brian Pryor Jr., Britney Hughes, and Dennis Hughes Jr., Calvin's daughters (Khalidah and Jamielah Yancey) and six great grandchildren. Allen was attend to by his long-time caregiver, Betty Pearsall.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 am Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 until time of services there at 12 noon Thursday. Rev. Jack P. Joyner will officiate. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National
Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the United States Army and the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
