Arlene F. Urbanek

Arlene F. Urbanek, 80, of Medinah, IL, died on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. Arlene was born July 6, 1937, at home in Elmhurst, IL, the daughter of Henry and Frieda (Toppel) Schweitzer. She married Joseph F. Urbanek on October 18, 1958 at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Elmhurst, the same church that she was baptized in many years earlier. Arlene graduated from York High School and prior to raising her children, she worked for Northern Illinois Gas. She was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ and worked in the office there for several years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Her family meant the world to her and she enjoyed attending all of her familys activities and lending her support. Arlene was a former secretary/treasurer of the Lake Park Hockey Club. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, playing the organ, and was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. Her loving, kind-hearted nature will be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ray Schweitzer; and sister, Elaine Sherson. She is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, Joe Urbanek; sons, David (Jeanne) Urbanek of Springfield, IL and Joseph H. (Rene) Urbanek of Bartlett, IL; daughter, Karen (Brian) Witte of Marathon, FL; seven grandchildren, Robert, Christopher (Liz Kunz), Mark, Aubrey (Aaron Berry), Marisa, Jonathon, and Allison; siblings, Arnold (Mary) Schweitzer and Wayne (June) Schweitzer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial and Remembrance Ceremony: 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at St. Peters United Church of Christ, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst, IL. Visitation and Celebration of Life: Family will receive friends from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at St. Peters United Church of Christ.
