

August “Guss” A. Candioto Jr., 64, of Chatham, passed away on Thursday March 30, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on February 15, 1953 in Springfield to August A. and Frances Bogden Candioto Sr. He married Cindy Blanford in Springfield on May 23, 1981 and she survives.
Guss is survived by one son Joseph A. Candioto, one sister Candice (Pat) Bearss, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and brother and sister-in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Michael A. Candioto.
Mr. Candioto was a lifelong resident of Chatham and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1971. He was a Past Master of Springfield Lodge #4 AF&AM, 2004-2006 Past Commander and Chief Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite, 33rd Degree Mason in 2007, member of York Rite St. Edwards Conclave, Ansar Shrine and Ansar Directors Staff, Springfield Court #20 R.O.J., and a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Guss was the owner and operator of Metro Music and Metro Gaming in Chatham. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and shooting sports having won many trap shooting awards. Mr. Candioto was one of the cofounders of the Children’s Dyslexia Center of Springfield.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 700 East Spruce Street in Chatham, with burial to follow at Chatham Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 4:15pm until 7:00pm Tuesday April 4 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road, following a prayer service starting at 4:00pm. The visitation will conclude with a Masonic Service by Springfield Lodge #4 AF&AM at 7:00pm.
