

Barbara Ruth Alexander-Jones, 61, of Springfield, died at 11:17 a.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. Barbara was born April 4, 1950 in Springfield, the daughter of Emil Joseph and Luella P. Wright Alexander. Barbara graduated from Southeast High School and earned her associate's degree at Lincoln Land Community College. She then went on to earn her bachelor's degree at Sangamon State University in 1974. She worked as an Executive Director for Latham Opportunities in Latham, IL from 1977 to 1982. In 1982, she began working at the Department of Human Services as the Quality Control Supervisor and Administrative Assistant. She was a member and former officer of the Springfield Business and Professional Women's Club. Barbara enjoyed going bargain hunting at thrift shops and antique stores. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jennie Alexander; brother, Charles J. Alexander; and aunt, Mary Weiss. She is survived by three daughters, Chrystal Alexander, Carla Jones and Carmen Jones, all of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Nikilus, Frankie, Monte, Cir, Camaria, Dailyn, Eric, Michael and Emilio; siblings, Connie Stanley of Springfield, Julie Holm of Chula Vista, CA, Tom Alexander of Ormond Beach, FL, Carl Alexander of Lawndale, CA and Kevin Alexander of Stanton, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends; and Wilbert T. Jones, Sr. to whom she was married for more than 15 years. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Ayappa officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
