

Barbara Jean Hall- Hawkins, 86, of Springfield, passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Regency Care. Barbara was born on February 3, 1930 in Morris, IL, the daughter of Stanley and Bertha Hoge Hall. She married Jack M. Hawkins on November 26, 1950 at Morris, IL; he preceded her in death. Barbara was a loving and kind woman with a great sense of humor. She spent most of her life as a homemaker raising her four children. Barbara studied Journalism for two years at ISU, which proved valuable later when she edited the Lake Carroll News newspaper. She was artistic, crafty, and enjoyed sewing. Barbara made many special holiday outfits for her daughter and her daughter's Barbie doll. She was a 4-H leader for several years, making sure that all the girls made award-winning projects. In the early years she and Jack had the opportunity to take several vacations that he earned as an agency manager with Country Insurance. The kids always looked forward to "Adventures in Babysitting" with many different sitters during those vacations. Between summers full of boating, fishing, and skiing on Lake Carroll and snowmobiling from Freeport, IL to northern Wisconsin, Barb and Jack were always active and outgoing with their family. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Margaret Condon; and three brothers, William, Robert, and George Hall. She is survived by her four children, Jill (husband, Robert) Morgan of Springfield, Stanley B. (wife, Debbie) of Forreston, IL, Jeffrey M. of Odessa, TX, and Jack L. (wife, Pam) Hawkins of Munster, IN; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Shirie, Jenni, Andy, Kim, Alex, Julie, and Emily; one great-grandchild, Richard; four siblings, Donald Hall of Rockford, Ralph (wife, Pat) Hall of Casa Grande, AZ, Bev (husband, Don) Anderson of Ottawa, IL, and Lynnette (husband, Ralph) Johnson of Marseilles, IL; and many, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 South Douglas Ave, Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
