Barbara was born on January 2, 1941, in Springfield, the daughter of Vincent R. and Harriett A. (Pudschun) Heinen. She married James A. Townsend; he preceded her in death on September 4, 1986.
Barbara graduated from Lanphier High School in 1958. She and her husband, Jim, lived in Arizona for a time before moving back to Springfield. She worked for Henry Nelch Concrete and Franklin Life Insurance. Barbara enjoyed shopping and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed taking the train up to Chicago to watch the Cubs play at Wrigley once a year. Barbara also enjoyed NASCAR and spending time with her cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; sister, Pamela Rae Heinen; nephew, Billy Graham; and her beloved cats, Peewee and Herman.
Barbara is survived by her siblings, Judie Graham, Michael Heinen, and Vince (Sheila) Heinen, all of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Private family ceremonies will be held with burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
