Betty was born in Waco, TX on February 9, 1932, the daughter of Henry and Eunice (Root) Gurisco. She married Robert Emmett Corrigan on June 5, 1953 in El Paso, IL. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1999.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University in 1953. Betty was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She was a teacher at Christ the King School for 36 years, retiring in 2000. Betty volunteered at St. Patrick Schools as a tutor and was a Good Samaritan at St. John’s Hospital. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for her spaghetti. Mom was proud to be an Italian and you always knew when she was mad when mom resorted to speaking Italian. She was an avid reader and loved to shop.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Leigh Ann Hanselman; and stepfather, Earl Newton.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Missy) Corrigan of Greenbrier, AR; daughters, Candace Powers and Caroline Fitzsimmons, both of Chatham; grandchildren, Aaron, Corrie, Becky, Bree, Ryan, Cody, Jake and Caleb; great-grandchildren, Eric, Dayton, Brian, Jordyn, Austin, Mia, Ella, Cait, and Emmett; son-in-law, Mike Hanselman; special grandchild, Angel; brother, Dean (Mary) Newton; sister-in-law, Kit Stromberger; five nieces; and caregiver, Grace Deizman. Betty also leaves behind her cherished friends, Sandy Schmohe and Mary Ellen Lesh.
Betty was a woman of strong Catholic faith. Before every trip, she would tell her children and grandchildren to say three Hail Mary’s to guide them safely to their destination. As she left this world, Betty’s children did the same for her.
Above all she cherished her family. Her children and grandchildren were her life.
