Betty Jean McGowan

Betty Jean McGowan, 96, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday June 23, 2016 at Concordia Village. She was born on May 10, 1920 in Illiopolis to Orpheus and Alice Farmer Elliott. Betty married Roger R. McGowan on June 6, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 29, 1997.

Mrs. McGowan is survived by her sister Catherine Ray of Jerseyville, two sister-in-laws: Connie Elliott of Girard and Martha Elliott of Minnesota as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, three brothers: Jack, Robert, and Bill, and her sister Barbara Ann.

Betty served as a Medical Nurse in the US Navy during World War II. She met her husband Roger in Springfield while working as a nurse for Dr. Sears. Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and West Side Christian Church.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday June 28, 2016 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road, with burial to follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10:00am until the time of funeral service Tuesday at Bisch West.
