

Bruce A. Tanner, 54, of Loami, passed away unexpectedly on a business trip in Chicago on Thursday, April 28, 2016. He was born September 19, 1961 in Springfield to Gordon Franklin and Martha Ann Winesburgh Tanner. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Donald Skinner. Bruce graduated from Southeast High School in 1979, where he played on the inaugural soccer team. He coached many soccer teams, pre-k through high school, including many teams that his children, Jake and Mikayla were on. Lots of family time was spent traveling to soccer tournaments and college football games. The long trips were made bearable by his great sense of humor. He attended Lincoln Land Community College. Bruce married the love of his life, Tami Skinner on August 8, 1986. He was the executive manager of Skateland North and South before employment with the State of Illinois. He was currently the Manager-Court Liaison Section of the Driver Services Department for the Secretary of State. Bruce attended St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with his family in Chatham. He was a member of the Central Illinois Notre Dame Club. His passion for photography was initiated at Notre Dame as he captured the essence of the football team, Touchdown Jesus, and candid photos of his family. Bruce was a huge fan of Notre Dame football and Southern Mississippi football, where his daughter attends school. GO IRISH!!! SMTTT!!! He will be greatly missed by his wife of 29 years, Tami; son, Jake; daughter, Mikayla all of Loami; brother, Greg (Vicki) Tanner of Rochester; Mother-in-law, Joanne Skinner of Loami, Brothers-in-law, Greg (Michele) Skinner of Loami, and Brad (Charlotte) Skinner of Loami; aunt, Bettie Irwin of Jamestown, California; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. His family will greet friends from 4-7pm, Monday, May 2, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, May 3, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham, with Fr. Richard Chiola officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to his children�s education fund. Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham, is serving Bruce�s family.
