

Carl W. Powers, 91, of Springfield, died at 7:25 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Village. Carl was born March 4, 1925, the son of Joseph and Bertha Powers. He married Jean Marie Cooper on April 24, 1965 in Jacksonville; she preceded him in death on April 2, 2013. Carl retired from the U.S. Postal Service and had practiced as a barber for over 50 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Carl also belonged to Woodside Methodist Church. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Illini basketball fan, and also bowled in several leagues. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters. He is survived by two sons, Michael (wife, Leigh Ann) Powers of Springfield and Ted J. (wife, Becci) Powers of Homer; two daughters, Karleen (husband, Tom) Murphy and Cheryl Murphy, all of Springfield; four grandchildren, Joseph Murphy, Matthew Powers, Quintin Powers and Katie Powers; two great-grandsons, Max and Sully Powers; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the memorial ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
